Most nutrition apps are calorie counters. They’ll tell you how many calories you ate, how much protein, carbs, and fat — and that’s about it.

That’s not nothing. But it’s not the full picture either.

The gap nobody talks about

You can hit your calorie and macro targets every single day and still be deficient in magnesium, zinc, vitamin D, or half a dozen other nutrients your body needs to function. Macros tell you about energy. Micronutrients tell you about health.

The problem is that tracking micronutrients has historically been a pain. The apps that do it are either buried in complexity, paywalled, or covered in ads that make the experience miserable.

Why I built Nutrient Logger

I wanted something simple: log what I eat, see where my diet actually falls short — not just in calories, but in the vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that most people never think about.

I couldn’t find it. So I built it.

Nutrient Logger tracks 80+ nutrients from a USDA-sourced database. You can scan barcodes, create custom foods, and set personalized targets. And it works completely offline — your food log never leaves your device.

What’s next

This blog is where I’ll share what I’m learning about nutrition tracking, the gaps most diets have, and what’s coming next for the app. If you’re the kind of person who thinks about nutrition beyond just calories, you’re in the right place.

Download Nutrient Logger on the App Store and see what you’ve been missing.
